JOANN SHIE-CHEN

Head of Operations & CCO

Joann Shie-Chen is Director, Head of Operations and Chief Compliance Officer. She has been responsible for the design and integration of our best-in-class middle and back office systems. She works closely with our portfolio, risk and financial management teams as well as external administrators to ensure smooth trade reconciliation and audit tracking. Joann has over fifteen years’ experience in financial services most recently as Senior Operations and Compliance at Sensato Investors. Prior to Sensato she worked at both BlackRock (formerly BGI) and Goldman Sachs in prime services. She received her undergraduate degree in International Relations and Asian Studies from The University of British Columbia. Joann speaks Mandarin Chinese and Japanese.

CHRIS KELLEY

Head of Markets

Chris Kelley is Director, Head of Markets as part of the investment team at HonTe Advisors, LLC. Chris has been involved in macro markets since 2010, most recently as the head of FX execution at Thiel Macro Family Office. He leverages his prior work experiences on both the buy-side and sell-side in FX, Emerging Markets, and Fixed Income markets to help the firm source liquidity, navigate product research, and access and strengthen counterparty relationships. Chris pairs his Bachelor’s in Mathematics from Georgetown University with considerable academic and professional experience abroad.

KUSHAN BALASOORIYA

Chief Financial Officer & CTO

Kushan Balasooriya is Director, Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and Chief Technology Officer (CTO) at HonTe Advisors, LLC. As CFO, He is responsible for all accounting, financial management and related responsibilities for the firm and its investment products. As CTO, he is responsible for maintaining our cybersecurity and IT infrastructure.

Kushan works closely with our operations team as well as our external administrator, tax and audit partners, IT MSP and Cybersecurity consultant. Since 2009, Kushan has worked in financial services where he began in fund administration for hedge funds and fund of hedge funds before transitioning to hedge funds directly. Kushan began his career at IFS, State Street, and later became a Manager at Citco Fund Services. Most recently, Kushan was a Senior Fund Accountant on the Finance Team at Partner Fund Management. Kushan holds an Honours Bachelor of Arts in Economics and History with a minor in English from the University of Toronto, Trinity College, as well as the Certified Public Accountant and Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst designations.

JESSICA CARVIN

Head of Investor Relations and Human Resources

Jessica Carvin is Director, Head of Investor Relations and Human Resources. She has worked in the industry since 2006 focused on executing firm wide priority projects and client relations. Prior to HonTe, Jessica worked in the Executive Offices of Goldman Sachs, Barclays Plc. and most recently Apollo Global Management. She received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Mississippi School of Journalism and New Media, focused on Broadcast Journalism.
